I-670/71 Columbus Crossroads

This project relieved congestion, added capacity, and increased safety conditions for the nearly 150,000 motorists that utilize the highway each day.

 INSIDE THE PROJECT

The first phase of the Columbus Crossroads improvements included the complete reconstruction of the I-670/71 interchange.

Kokosing’s team was awarded the $200 million Design-Build contract and proceeded to self-perform the construction of 22 bridges, including two new flyover ramps, 28 retaining walls, major earthwork, storm sewer, and asphalt and concrete pavement. The goal of the award-winning project was to reduce congestion, improve safety, and to better connect local neighborhoods. This high-traffic-volume, schedule-driven project included the challenges of urban utility coordination, public involvement, and maintenance of traffic.

Kokosing’s team exceeded expectations by rerouting traffic around the project to minimize impact to traveling public and maintained great relationships with the community throughout construction.

Along with integrating public art, aesthetic street features, bike lanes, and public green space, the final design brought neighborhoods and communities closer together.
