I-77 Reconstruction Ramp Widening

INSIDE THE PROJECT 

In 2008, Kokosing was awarded a $90 million reconstruction and widening of seven miles of I-77 through Brecksville and Independence, Ohio.  With an average daily travel of 186,700 vehicles per day, I-77 is one of the heaviest traveled sections of roadway in the Cleveland metropolitan area.

This high-profile, multi-phased project, included the reconstruction of 13 bridges, 250,000 cubic yards of earthwork, 35,000 linear feet of storm sewers, 540,000 tons of asphalt, 6,100 linear feet of cast-in-place (CIP) retaining wall, 95,000 cubic yards of 304 roadway base, 550,000 square yards of cement stabilization, and over 350,000 square feet of noise wall.   Kokosing self-performed this work, including self-producing the hot-mix asphalt in our nearby wholly-owned and operated plant.

Kokosing minimized the impact to the traveling public by constructing this multi-phased project while maintaining two lanes of traffic at all times. Kokosing’s project staff informally partnered with the ODOT project staff resulting in zero claims and all lanes of traffic open to traffic by the contract specified interim completion date.
